2008 Spring Season Began March 8!  What's up for 2008?  Here is the 2008  calendar.  Want to sail with us?  Find out how.  Skippers - want to stay in touch with potential new crew?  In addition to checking the Regular Crew List, take a look at the candidates on the Crew Candidates List.

Summer Is Here -- and So Are the Summer Regattas!  Next up is the President's/Leukemia Cup , just 2 weeks away, on September 6 - 7.  This is PRSA's big event of the year -- last year we had 14 Lightnings on the line.

Wednesday Night Sailing Rescheduled to September 3.  Due to the threat of rain on August 27, the final Wednesday Night sailing activity has been rescheduled to Wednesday, September 3. This will be the last of our summer Wednesday evening organized activities.  Be there!  Experienced skippers will be on hand to take out new crew; we will plan on doing starting practice with the Albacores.

On-line sign up for 2008 PRSA Race Committee Slots is still  available!  PRO slots are all filled, and the remaining RC positions this year are assigned by fleet. Lightnings will be providing drivers and helpers for Spring Series #s 1, and 6; Fall Series #s 1; 2; 4; and 8; The upper course for the Spring Regatta; and the lower course for the President's Leukemia Cup.  Sign up now! Each Lightning skipper who is not a PRO should plan on working 2 RC days as a driver/helper this year.

Now is the time to re-up your membership in  PRSA, Fleet 50, and ILCA.  Where else can you get so much fun and friendship for such a low price??  Click here to find the membership renewal forms.  Have you already renewed? Check the Skipper roster or the Associates roster to find out.

Renew ILCA Dues Now! To date 25 Fleet 50 skippers and 24 associates/crew have renewed their ILCA dues for 2008.  If that's not you, expect to hear from the Fleet Captain!  Last year we had 25 skippers and 28 associates/crew with 2007 dues paid.  It's important to support the international association that supports our sailing program and represents the interests of Lightning owners and their crews so well.  Additionally, slots at the North American Championships are allotted based on the number of paid memberships from the District.  Fleet 50 needs to do its part in making sure the Dixie District has its share of those slots.  You can sign up on line at the ILCA Membership page.

Wednesday Evening Sailing August 27.  Joe Warren and David Thompson were on site setting up their boats after their return from Havre de Grace, and Frank Gallagher stopped by and to drop off his Leukemia Cup donations and to help Joe and David with their masts.  The weather forecast called for periods of rain developing around 6 PM, which was enough to keep skippers off the water, even though the rain didn't actually start until after 7.  This, the final Wednesday Night sailing for the summer thus was postponed until next Wednesday, September 3.

2008 Duck Challenge.  John Butler, Joe Warren, Russ Roberts, and David Thompson traveled to Havre de Grace for the 2008 Duck Challenge regatta, on a weekend with beautiful summer weather, although there was no wind on Saturday.  On Sunday we were blessed with a nice southerly at 10 - !5 MPH and we sailed 6 races.   Jason Werner, sailing with Heather Dodd and Brian Debrincat took first place.   Here are Results. Here are photos and stories. Here are more stories and a video.
