Bobby Sails in the Central New York District Regatta July 8-9

Great trip to Ithaca in Upstate NY this past weekend.  Billy, Matt & I sailed in the NY Centrals regatta and then went to the Baseball Hall of Fame on Monday.

It was a very good, but not exactly a consistent showing for Pandora with a 2, 12, 2 score.   That landed us 4th overall out of 12.  The first race ended in a close finish between ourselves and Dick Hallagan, with both of us shooting the finish line together.  Experience won - i.e.; we didn't.  But not at all disappointing as I'll settle for a photo finish w' Dick any day.

In the second race we rounded the final mark in a solid 3rd place, only to watch all other boats drift around us before the finish.  We must have sailed into a weed patch and not noticed, but that is part of lake racing and we made the fatal mistake.  We recovered in the final race we sailed to a solid second place finish behind Dick Tuttle.

On Saturday we didn't get any races in, abandoning at about 1:00 PM, Lake Cayuga being the winner.  So we got in early, and we took the car 3 miles up the lake to Taughanack falls, a fantastic gorge with a 215 foot waterfall.  absolutely spectacular!  And wading in the water was a great way to cool down after hours of drifting.

After the races Sunday we packed up and drove 2 hrs. over to Cooperstown.  A great museum if you've never been, and the perfect way to cap off a great weekend.

Sailing the lakes in Upstate NY is a great experience.  Lake Cayuga is still crystal clear, the air is clean, the hills large, and the Ithaca Yacht Club great hosts.

Humm.  I think I 'll go back Upstate in two weeks for the Woody Regatta...
