Dixie District Fleet Captain's Meeting
December 2, 2005
Attendees: Nabeel Alsalam (Commodore), Todd Johnson
(Treasurer & Fleet 229), Jason Werner (Fleet 192), Jeff Storck (Fleet 50),
Star Mikel (Fleet 253), Ron Buchanan (Fleet 509), David Meiser (Fleet
508), and Don Behrens (Fleet 508).
Calendar: Discussion and
decisions reflected in posted schedule.
Ron agreed to act as the coordinator for the Delaware
Governor’s Cup. He pointed out that the later the better as far as
getting sea breeze is concerned. So we agreed to be open to a date in
July despite that being the height of the beach season. The alternative
is June 10 & 11 (or early October).
Purnell Cup:
For 2006, the same 8 regattas as in 2005. See
calendar
The decision was made to give a glass mug or similar
to all Dixie District skippers who sail in 5 or more of the Purnell Cup
regattas. The mug might be modeled after Brian Hayes’ “Drive, hike,
rinse, repeat” mug.
There was a general feeling that changing the scoring
to weight attendance at more regattas over beating lots of boats at a few
larger events would be desirable. David Meiser & Todd Johnson suggested
using a low point scoring system. Jason suggested using a 5 + 5 scoring
system: 5 for attending and up to 5 for performance. Nabeel will
follow-up with a proposal before the Dixie party (see below).
Fleet Reports: Each fleet
will submit a fleet report to ILCA (with Nabeel & Todd cc’d). Those
reports should include a roster of member boats. Nabeel will do the
District report. Nabeel will follow-up in the next week or so with
deadlines.
Nabeel asked that the rosters include email addresses
and phone numbers. He will use the email addresses to invite people to
join the email list:
LightningDixieDistrict@yahoogroups.com .
Fleet Dues:
We agreed to leave the per boat dues to the District at $5. Each fleet
will send a check to the treasurer (Todd Johnson) for $25 + $5 per boat.
Todd will send $25 per fleet to ILCA instead of the
fleets doing so directly.
Dixie Party: There was
a sense that it would be good to bring back the Dixie District Party.
Nabeel will look for a date in February or January that doesn’t conflict
with the fleet parties. It will either be a lunch or early dinner at a
restaurant that can accommodate a large informal crowd – Cantler’s?
February 11 or 12th? Superbowl weekend is February 4.
Articles for Spinsheet:
We would like to get “press coverage” of our Dixie Lightning
events. We agreed that each fleet secretary will prepare a report and
send it to Spinsheet soon after the event along with a picture or two.
We were not as successful as we’d hoped in getting
coverage of our regattas in Spinsheet. They may be cutting back on their
one-design coverage.
CBYRA:
Nabeel will try to find a CBYRA connection.
Getting Our Boats to San Diego for the NAs:
Jason has experience in putting together a solicitation
package. He agreed to do so, if people will then actually use the package
to hit up business for donations.
Jamie mentioned that Ed Petite de Mage (sp?) would
be a good contact.

Nabeel will
update it.
