Requirements -
 
- You will be required to maintain the boat and equipment in
        top condition.
- You will be assigned a mentor and you will be required to
        report to him/her on a regular basis.
- You will be required to write some articles about this program and
        your experience racing the Lightning.
- You will be required to maintain records and submit receipts
        for your expenses.

Selection Process:

There is a review committee of six Lightning Sailors who will review all the applications.  The members of the committee are:

Allan Terhune (MD) - Dixie District - Co-Chair
Debbie Probst (IN) - Indiana District - Co-Chair
John Faus (NJ) - Central Atlantic District
Bill Fastiggi (VT) - New England District
Denise Cornell (WI) - Midwest District
Mike Healy (NY) - Central NY District

Completed Applications received by ILCA before December 31, 2008
Review Committee's Review January 2 thru January 31, 2009
Applicants notification prior to March 1, 2009

Boats will be granted for use for the 2009 sailing season.  Term of use will be through October 31, 2009 unless modified by application.

Selection Criteria:

Each Applicant should submit whatever information they deem necessary to the Selection Committee above and beyond the application if they feel it necessary.

The importance (weight) of each of the main 10 categories of information is indicated. In addition, there is an additional 10 bonus points for the quality and innovativeness of your application. Please note the submission procedure outlined in "how to apply."

4.  Proximity to an established Fleet (5)

5.  Strength of Sailing Resume (20)

6.  Strength of Recommendations (20)

7.  Ability to Maintain Boat (10)

8.  Ability to Travel (5)

9.  Ability to Store boat (5)
